Rebel Óg Eastern A Fé 16 Football Championship

Killeagh-Ita’s 3-9, Carrigtwohill 3-15

Our last team in championship for 2015 bowed out in an exciting game of football in Páirc UÍ Chinnéide on Monday evening last. A slow start saw Carrigtwohill blaze into a five point lead with two points followed by a goal on the fourth minute. Keane Budds, our best player on the night, got us on the scoreboard with a pointed free on ten minutes, but Carrig continued to dominate, leading 2-4 to 0-2 midway through the half before Sean Walsh punched a goal to give us a lifeline. By half time it looked ominous as Carrig led by 2-8 to 1-3 (Liam Gosnell doing most of the damage), and the gap increased as Carrig added two points after half time. However, from the 37th to the 56th minute we played a brilliant twenty minutes of football, conceding just one goal and scoring 2-5 in reply – Keane Budds and Richie Long scoring the goals and sub David Kelly and Padraig Leahy kicking excellent points. With just four minutes left, we trailed by just two points – 3-10 to 3-8, and a dramatic comeback was looking possible. Unfortunately, Carrig steadied the ship and as we attacked, we were caught on the counter-attack and Carrig added five points in the last eight minutes (four minutes of added time were played by reiteoir Jim Hennessy) so the brave efforts of our team went unrewarded. Well done to the full panel (a young team included only five players on the age) for a very good effort under Sean Long and Mikey Fitzgerald, our young managers who gave great commitment to this team.

Team: Olin Hennessy, Kieran Daly, Dylan Hogan, Cian McDonald, Barry Motherway, Padraig McCarthy, Padraig Leahy (0-1), Keane Kelly Budds (1-5), Richie Long (1-1), Oisin McCarthy, Jack Wyse, Adrian Galvin, Jamie Clifford, Sean Walsh (1-0), Fionn McDonnell, Darragh Geary, James Kent, Andrew Foley, Liam McCarthy, David Kelly (0-2).

Mixed Week for Under 12 hurlers

Our Under 12 hurlers qualified for the Eastern A Fé 12 League Final v Whitechurch with victory over Donoughmore at home on Friday evening, despite losing to Carrigtwohill just 24 hours earlier. Our performance in Carrigtwohill was below-par, and we were well beaten by 3-10 to 2-5. However, we got back in gear on Friday with a blistering first half performance against Donoughmore to secure a comprehensive victory. Best wishes in the final to this young panel.

Under 14s get ready for Premier 2 Play-Off

Our Under 14 hurlers prepared for their upcoming Premier 2 league play-off by playing an Imokilly Under 13 selection at home on Wednesday evening. An impressive first half saw us lead by 2-8 to 2-4 at half time, with Killeagh Under 13s Ben O’Connor and Ciaran Leahy impressing for Imokilly. We took the foot off the pedal a little in the second half to finish up winners by 3-12 to 2-7, so plenty of work to be done before the knockout.

Team: Robbie Treacy, Danny Cunningham, Cian McDonald, Paul Delaney, George Sinclair, Ryan McCarthy, Robert Sinclair, David Kelly, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Oisin McCarthy, Richie Landers, Olan Broderick, Dara Motherway, Daniel Lucey, Darragh O’Connor, Olan Coleman, Tommy Noonan, Ciaran O’Rourke, David Collins, Brian Murphy.
